1. You have a great space. Do you ever rent out your facility?
Absolutely! Check out the Facilities Rental section under the ABOUT tab.
2. I had no idea there was a theatre here. How long have you been here?
We’ve been around since 1983 but have been in this space for 13 years. One of our biggest hurdles is letting people know where we’re located, as we often feel like Greenville’s best kept secret. We’ve got a fabulous space right here in the heart of Greenville one block off of Main Street. Please help us spread the word.
3. Where’s a good place to eat?
We are lucky to have several good restaurants around us. If you’re looking for upscale and nearby, The Lazy Goat and Soby’s are both close and within walking distance. Right around the corner on McBee Avenue is Cazbah, which is great for drinks and tapas. High Cotton is also quite popular and is only a short drive away. Main Street (one block away)has a number of more moderately priced restaurants, including one of my favorites, Takosushi. Greenville has no shortage of good places to eat, but no matter where you go, be sure to tell your server that you have theatre tickets reserved for 8pm and must have your check by 7:30pm at the latest. They will take good care of you!
4. Where can I park?
We have three parking lots, the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney parking lot as well as the Countybank parking lot and the lower parking lot around the corner on Broad Street. There is never a fee to park in one of our lots if you’re coming to see a show at Centre Stage. However, season members, of course, get season-long parking passes that allow them to park in our lot any weeknight after 5pm and anytime on Saturdays and Sundays at no cost…..whether there is anything playing at Centre Stage or not!
5. When is show time?
Typically all evening shows begin at 8pm and all matinees begin at 3pm. However, there are always exceptions and some shows have added dates and performances so be sure to check our online calendar to get the most up-to-date information.
6. My teacher is always going on about theater etiquette and I know that texting is considered rude, but what else should I know?
Great question! Live theatre is very different from film or television in that it is a two-way communication. Breaking the magic for others is the main reason that all cell phones, pagers and watch alarms should be turned off during the show. Even the light from a cell phone can break the mood for someone seated behind you. Don’t get me wrong, we want you to text all your friends about the great show you’ll see at our theatre, just please wait until intermission or after the show to do so.
Lateness is the cardinal sin in the theatre. Theatre takes planning and preparation; always give yourself time to find comfortable parking and get situated at least 15 minutes before the show starts.
Candy wrappers can be another nuisance. Please unwrap candies before the lights go down.
Fussy or noisy children should be taken to the lobby immediately. And realistically, children under a certain age should not be expected to be still for two hours. They’re children; they’re not built to do that.
Cameras and recording equipment can be quite dangerous if the actor is momentarily blinded by a flash. Recording equipment also violates most trademark-protected property and is also usually disruptive to at least one audience member.
7. How old do I have to be to get the senior rate?
We consider seniors to be 65+.
8. How does student rush work?
$10 at the door with student ID , 15 minutes prior to a non-musical performance. CASH ONLY!
9. What is your mailing address?
Centre Stage
P.O. Box 8451
Greenville, SC 29604
10. How many seats do you have? Which are the best?
Due to recent accommodations made to the stage, we seat 279 patrons per show at present. While most people are accustomed to proscenium stages where the seats are directly facing the performers, our theatre uses a thrust stage (the oldest design made famous by the ancient Greeks) and stadium seating. Our actors are directed to perform to all three sides of the audience and we have stadium seating, which means that no one’s head is blocking your view.
11. Can I use all 6 of my season membership admissions for one show?
Yes, but only for a non-musical. Each season membership comes with 6 flexible admissions and you can use up to 2 of them (per membership) for each musical. If two people buy 2 season memberships, they can use up to 4 of their 12 admissions for that one show. Besides we have a lot of good shows, including 4 musicals, coming up this season. Why would you want to miss any of them?
